Further Academic Success
Jonty Blundell has been awarded a NZQA Scholarship in Statistics and Modelling, bringing his total to 3 scholarships and increasing our Rathkeale/St Matthew's Senior College total to 23.
Renee Tonkin has been accepted to read Biochemistry at Imperial College in London, a fantastic achievement.
We congratulate both Jonty and Renee on their success.
Top Scholar at Government House
Hamish Hirschberg received his NZQA Premier Award from the Governor-General at Government House on April 27th. The Principal, Willy Kersten, and Hamish's parents were there to see him receive the award in recognition of his 5 Outstanding Scholarships in the 2011 NZQA Scholarship exams.
High Achievers in Squash
William Hirst and James Simons will compete in the Easter Hawkes Bay Squash Open. William is the Wairarapa U19 Champion, as well as being in the Wairarapa Mens Top 10 and the NZ Top 15. Success in the Inter-collegiate Swimming Champs
The Rathkeale swimming team had an excellent night in the Masterton pool for the Inter-collegiate swimming competition. They finished with 7 wins, 7 second places and 3 third places in the 19 individual events as well as 2 wins and 3 second places in the relays. Joe Hammond broke two individual records and the Seniors broke the Freestyle and Medley relays. Full results are available on the Sports Results/Draw page.
Victorious Croquet Team 2012!
Rathkeale College Croquet team (Eddie Phillips, Dennis Chu, Thomas Kirkland, Hugh Morrison-Thomas, Sean Pearless, Oliver Mebus-Leckie and Jack Redley) beat Kuranui College to win, and retain from 2011, the Inter-collegiate Croquet Competition mallet.
Health and Safety Achievements
The following Senior Colllege students achieved the Health and Safety Qualification through Gateway: Tawhi Lackner, Megan Wright, Jack Sowry, Josh Whitehead, Courtney Farrier and Elizabeth Jolly. Well done to all of them.
Finn Yeats - Outstanding High Jumper!
At the Wellington Regional Athletics sports, Finn Yeats broke the High Jump record with an impressive 1.74m jump. Congratulations Finn.

Top Art Exhibition
Ben Foster and Jane Warren (Senior College 2011) have been selected to have their Visual Art-Painting folios exhibited in the touring NZQA Top Art Exhibition (6 folios have been chosen from the North Island)
Top Art is an annual touring exhibition featuring some of New Zealand's top secondary school Visual Art portfolios. The exhibition is coordinated by NZQA.
All of the students involved in the exhibition gained Excellence for their work at NCEA level 3 in 2011.
Top Art provides an opportunity for secondary students and teachers to view the high standard of art produced in schools and gain an understanding of what is required to achieve Excellence in Visual Art at level 3. It is also an opportunity for members of the public to see the high quality art being created in schools.

Announcing 2011 New Zealand Scholarship Award winners
The New Zealand Scholarship Premier Award winners and the 35 Top Subject Scholars for 2011 were announced today by NZQA.
In 2011, 10 students achieved Premier Awards, with a further 51 achieving Outstanding Scholar Awards, and 34 students were named Top Subject Scholar Award winners.
Premier Awards carry a monetary award of $10,000 each year for up to three years of tertiary study**. Outstanding Scholars each receive $5,000 per year for up to three years*, Top Subject Scholar Awards each receive $2000 per year for up to three years**.
“It is a pleasure for me to congratulate the 2011 Premier Award winners and Top Subject Scholars. These are exceptional students who have achieved impressive results within their studies and we wish them all the best for their future,” said NZQA Deputy Chief Executive Qualifications, Richard Thornton.

Jonty Blundell was awarded the Senior College prize and the Blackett Cup as Dux of Rathkeale/St Matthew's Senior College.
Anna McBride was awarded the Trinity Schools' Foundation Prize and the Ramsay Silver Salver as Proxime Accessit.

Young Sportsman Of The Year Awards
Congratulations to Todd Jenkins who was awarded the Emerging Sport of the Year Award acknowledging his national and international achievement. Todd was Runner-Up for Wellington Speedway Driver of the Year, second at national youth stockcar champs and captain of the NZ Youth Team.
Congratuations also to Tom Quinn, a Runner Up to Sportsman Of The Year, who won the junior boys 800m title and was fourth in the intermediate boys 800m at the NZ Secondary Schools Track and Field Champs, and George Sims - third in the 100m freestyle and second in the 100m butterfly at National Division Two Swimming Champs and third in the 50m butterfly and second in the 100m butterfly at the Wellington Champs.

Broke 5 swim Wairarapa Senior Short course Backstroke records, 9 Personal best times and qualified for 5 NZ Opens events.
Golden C'Art Award
For the second year in a row Fine Arts at Rathkeale have been acknowledged. Alex Penfold received the Golden C 'Art Award presented by Masterton Trust Lands Trust to the highest achieving Visual Arts student in the Wairarapa who will be persuing a Fine Arts degree. Tim Wagg won this in 2010.
